What is Thalamus?

Thalamus is a the ultimate patient education solution.

It’s a cross-platform app for computer desktops, TVs, and both iOS and Android tablets. It provides patient education functionality for doctors, from the waiting room to the operatory room, to the patient’s home.

Thalamus consists of four components: Chairside Education, Waiting Room TV, Operatory Room TV, and Website Education. These four components work together to give you the tools you need to increase case acceptance, revenue, and patient satisfaction.

How often will I have to manage the system?

Thalamus is as hands on as you want it to be. From the minute you are set up (only needs to be done once), you will have access to pre-made playlists and channels that you can use. However you are also given the tools to customize your Thalamus experience, creating your own playlists, channels, captions, and more.

How easy is it to use?

Thalamus is designed with simplicity in mind. Videos are categorized by specialization, and our customization options are thorough, yet intuitive.

Will the videos increase case acceptance?

Studies show that when patients are informed and can visualize their treatment options, they are more likely to proceed with the treatment plans recommended by their dentist. Thalamus’ short, educational videos can be the difference between whether or not a patient decides to move forward with treatment.

Do I need the Windows app?

The Thalamus windows app is critical for the setup and customization of Thalamus’ components. The Google TV and tablet apps were primarily used to be patient-facing, and are intended to show content, rather than edit.

What is a Google TV stick?

A free Chromecast with Google TV is included with your Thalamus subscription.

Chromecast with Google TV is a device for your TV that lets you download content and apps. Chromecast with Google TV is compatible with any TV that has an HDMI port (Any tv from the last 10 years).

The Thalamus app, which allows you to play Waiting room TV content, Operatory Room TV, and Chairside education, is available as a free download on Google TV.

Can I use other media sticks?

The Thalamus TV app is available on devices that run android. While we recommend that you use the included Chromecast with Google TV due to the reliability of the hardware and software, you can use any Android box to download the Thalamus TV apps.

What languages is Thalamus available in?

Thalamus is available in English (US, UK, Australian), German French, and Spanish.

Do you sell TV sets?

We do not sell TV sets. Chromecast with Google TV works on any TV with an HDMI port.

Do I need my own TV sets?

Yes. We do not supply TVs

Can the system work on a smart TVs?

Some newer TVs (2021 models) come equipped with Google TV software. TVs with Google TV by default will be able to download Thalamus from the app store. All other TV’s will be able to access Thalamus with the Chromecast with Google TV device.

How do I buy another Google TV stick?

You can purchase an additional Chromecast with Google TV by contacting our support team. The additional Google TV will appear on your next invoice. You can also purchase additional Google Tv’s at any electronics retailer, or online at store.google.com

Can I just pay for parts of the system?

At this time, parts of Thalamus are not available for individual purchase. We offer 30 Free website videos for free on our website.

Can I add my own content?

Yes! Parts of Thalamus are extremely customizable. Waiting Room TV and Operatory Room TV allow you to add your own content.

Do you have a contract?

No, Thalamus is available with no contracts. We think you will love our service, but if it isn’t for you, you can cancel anytime.

How do I download your apps?

The Thalamus Windows app can be downloaded from the Windows App store Here.

The Thalamus Android tablet app can be downloaded from the Google Play store, or by clicking Here.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you are not happy with Thalamus, you can cancel anytime. Once you cancel, you will still have access to Thalamus for the rest of the month. You will not be billed for the following month.

Who writes the video content?

The Thalamus video content is written by our team of dentists, writers, and animators.

Chairside

What is Chairside TV?

Chairside TV allows you to supplement your work with informative 3D dental videos that help explain complex procedures to patients, to ensure that your patients are well informed about your practice’s dental work and treatment options. Videos are organized by specialization.

Chairside TV and its collection of videos are available on Google TV, Windows, iPad, and Android Tablet,

Where can I view Chairside TV videos?

Chairside TV is intended to be shown to patients before they are treated. Chairside TV and its collection of videos are available on Google TV, Windows, iPad, and Android Tablet.

How do I get the videos onto an iPad or tablet?

To use Thalamus on Tablets, simply download the Thalamus app from the respective stores.

How long are the videos?

Thalamus videos range from about forty seconds to a minute and a half; the perfect amount of time to inform patients about the important details.

How many videos are available

We have more than 100 videos available on Chairside TV. An extensive list of our videos can be found here.

Can I download the videos?

Unfortunately at this time, Thalamus videos can not be downloaded.

What languages are chairside videos available in?

Thalamus is launching in English (with multiple accents) and German. French and Spanish will be available soon after launch.

Chairside videos are not available in my language, what can I do?

We are consistently looking to add additional languages. If Thalamus videos aren't available in your language, you can add custom captions to your videos from the Windows app.

How do I edit captions?

Captions can only be edited from the Windows App. For instructions, please see the help section of the Windows app

Can I share these videos with my patients?

Yes. You can take a screenshot anytime during the video and edit it with our built in tools. These edits can then be emailed directly to your patients

Waiting Room TV

What is waiting room TV?

With Waiting Room TV, you can educate, entertain, and engage with a personalized TV channel for your practice. Entertain patients while they wait with a selection of videos, trivia, and more.

How can I market my practices services on Waiting Room TV?

With the Waiting Room TV Windows app, you can upload your own custom slides and videos. These videos can include any promotions or offers that you would like to advertise to patients.

How do I set up Waiting Room TV?

Once Thalamus is installed, there are several pre-made channels available. From the Windows app, you are able to add and create custom channels that can be shared across multiple users and practices.

How does Waiting Room TV differ from Chairside TV?

Waiting Room TV is intended to be played in the waiting room of a dental practice. Most waiting room channels have an overlay that displays customizable important information such as the time, weather, the news, and social media feeds.

While both components feature educational videos, the content between the two differs slightly, as Waiting room TV is intended to entertain patients as well as inform.

How long are the videos?

Waiting Room TV videos differ in length, but are usually between 30 seconds to 2 minutes. These videos are intended to be short and played in succession with other videos in a Waiting room TV playlist.

How does scheduling channels work?

You can schedule channels in the Windows app. This allows certain channels and content to automatically play at specific times.

Operatory Room TV

What is Operatory Room TV?

For many, dental treatment can be a source of anxiety. Operatory Room TV features relaxing videos that can help relax patients while the dentist focuses on the treatment.

Where can I view Operatory Room TV

Operatory Room TV can only be viewed on Google TV.

Where do Operatory Room TV videos come from?

Pre-made Operatory Room TV videos are mostly sourced externally. Practice’s can create their own videos, and either upload their own videos or link them from video sites like Youtube using the Windows app.

What kinds of videos can I find on Operatory Room TV?

Videos on Operatory Room TV are organized into 5 categories: Landscape, Space, Animals, Oceans and Drone Footage.

Website Videos

What is website education?

In addition to the Thalamus software, a subscription includes the addition of a video player for your practice’s website where you and your patients can stream 50 Thalamus dental education videos.

How do I get the videos working on my website?

From the windows you can authorize a domain (your practice’s website) for website videos. Once done, you will receive an embed code, which when posted on your website will display a video player featuring 50 Thalamus videos.

Can I customize the video player?

Yes, the video player can be customized with different colours and layouts, to match your practice’s website. You also can hide certain videos, and re-organize them into a playlist.

Can I add another website domain to my plan?

Yes, additional domains can be added, for a fee, using the Windows app. The fee will appear in your next invoice. For pricing, please contact us.

How does the free website videos work?

When signing up for the free trial, you receive all Thalamus features, including website videos. When your trial runs out, if you decide not to subscribe, you keep the website player on your practice, with only 20 videos.

Why is it free?

We’re hoping that you and your patients will enjoy these videos and will want to try out Thalamus.

But don’t worry, if Thalamus isn’t for you, you are welcome to have the free video player on your website.
